Haven't been to this restuarant for over 20 years, so on a cold winters night and with a $23 discount offer, we decided to give it a go to see how it has survived.
We were not expecting too much based on our previous visit, so we brought along 2 cracker wines to keep us motivated if things went wrong.
On arrival, staff were attentive, friendly and very quick. The waitress that was later assigned to our table was very pleasant - but oh so inexperienced - leaning over us to pour wine, couldn't open either bottle without help and not quite sure of herself.

Food started off very nicely with a warm "cob" and fantastic butter.

Entree of pork belly was very dry looking and very amateurish in presentation - large wilting herb leaves placed on the plate and some on the pork. Still the pork was tasty - but a bit dry, uneven and over cooked.

Main of slow cooked Lamb Shank was eagerly awaited, but again the presentation soon made us feel that we were at a typical dinner party. 2 shanks totally smothered in the sauce which did not have much flavour at all. Had to pile on the salt to get a bit of contrast going. The meat on the shank was very well cooked and tender, but again not much flavour.

We decided to skip coffee and deserts and left with mixed feelings as some of the prices were what you pay at top eateries in the inner city.

We may go back to try some different dishes, but there was not anything really avant guard to choose from. A very suburban restaurant.

Most amazing restaurant ever!

Nelsons Restaurant was a fabulous place to have dinner, the waitresses were lovely, food was brilliant and the atmosphere was wonderful. The chef Shannon deserves 10/10 for the amazing food. I will most definitely be eating there again!
