I love this place. It is in my top 5 venues in melbourne. Brunch is perfect. At times a little slow with the service, so bring the paper as the food is worth the wait. The owner and staff are really friendly and your welcomed like a long lost friend. The cuisine is european style with a hint of the orient blended along too. It is clean, modern and yet intimate. Perfect for a romantic evening or work party function. I give it 5 stars.

On a sunday when the sun is shining and your belly is grumbling i thought it would be the perfect excuse to return to try out the breakfast menu in an attempt to be suitable impressed once more with this restaurant. As I arrived the place was positively jumping, with the customers in attendance creating a good vibration atmosphere. As I browsed the menu i came across something id never encountered before as a breakfast item. It was something called the "Veggie Bruscetta", who'd have thunk it, but seriously it was there, and as i love to try things ive never had before it was promptly ordered. The meal involves two slices of bruscetta on lightly toasted bread, with two poached eggs on top covered in hollandaise sauce, with some spinach layered in between. OH MY GOD, i have never had such a surprisingly delighful b'fast meal, talk about wow, the juices flowing from the bruscetta, the hollandaise sauce, wow, wow, wow, this menu item is to die for as it fills you up but doesnt leave you feeling bloated, not the mention the fact that its healthy mmmmmm, it is "choice".... so good in fact that whilst i was eating a couple of friends from work came by, there eyes quickly noticed my dish, at my prompting / recommendation they too ordered the dish and were left realing with pleasure. Washing my meal down once again with a great coffee i can honestly say im starting to fall in love with this place and its only the second date. I cant wait for summer when the by-fold doors at the front will be open to reveal the authentic feel of what might just be one of knox / wantirnas best hidden gems at the foot of the hills.

As an individual that loves to sit back and watch the world go by its nice to find a place from time to to time that upon entering fills you with its ambience or "je ne sais quoi" if you will. The decor is warm and inviting and does not overpower the senses. The staff are friendly and efficient yet know there place in that they are not constantly fussing over you which allows you to enjoy a moment or two in silence, to review a menu, or to talk with your friends/lover or other without being interrupted. That said, the makings of a great restaraunt is the culinary experience and in this regard I was not dissappointed. For me the test of any eatery is the ability to prepare a mouth watering steak, which I did and my reaction simply put was wow. A steak that does not require a smothering of mustard, or sauses is one that ranks highly in my books. With just a hint of salts, pepper and I assume some spices i was taken away instantly by the explosion of flavour that engulfed my pallet. To fully understand one must experience and not simply believe the rantings of an online revier so i humble recommend that this journey be undertaken by all those currently viewing. To top the night off i endulged in a serving of mars bar cake which to my surprise was soft, moist and not to heavy unlike so many other heavy / rick chocolate based desserts. Washed down with one of the smoothest coffees ive had in a while (for those who like traditional eurpoean coffee this was equal to another of my favourite haunts Pellegrinis on bourke street) the night was memomrable, not only for the food but for the partner accompanying me. To be fair the night was not just about me, my partner ordered the grilled fish which had a sprinkling of lemon and pepper that melted in her mouth (mine too), it was too die for, it is rare to eat fish so well prepared. Her dessert choice was the berry pudding which in her words was gooooooooood. With little more that i could say, I will finish by thanking the owners (both of whom were in attendance on the ngiht) for there warmth and hospitality, their relaxed approach and personalities helped to cement what was for me a memorable experience and I cant wait to have another meal at the top paddock again soon.
nice place in the suburbs

It is refreshing to find a nice restaurant in the suburbs stylish but unpretentious, with a friendly service where the owner takes the trouble to actually speak with you not treat you like another number.Food was fabulos, and the menu(new one of that was told)has a distinct mediteraneean flavour. The seafood platter was superb, service was good and friendly and we liked the ambiance on saturday night, which reminded us of the restaurants in Chapel st without the pretence. We foud the whole experience extremely pleasant and we definetly recomend to try it.Finally one thing that most impressed me (since i am not a drinker)was the coffe and the continental cakes .Usually the coffee in restaurants is not great here was surprisingly good ,better than some so called cafe's who pretend to be great coffe makers.Try it youl be pleasently surprised
Bad!

We were quite disappointed with the service. It took almost half an hour after we had finished our meal to get the bill, even after the rest of the people who had dined at the restaurant had cleared out & we were the only group left. And also after the front was completely packed up by the staff! And then the bill was not offered to us, we in fact had to yell out from our seats to the girls that were gossiping behind the bar to get the bill!
One of the girls I was with is a waitress herself & noted that if she behaved in the way the girls did, she would be sacked!
The meal was not fullfilling at all. And the parmagiana's we had order onto our table were over cooked - almost burnt.
The menu's had numerous amounts of spelling mistakes. Bottle is misspelt on the wines menu as "botthe" in one place and on the main menu, dessert is misspelt "desert"! A desert is a hot dry place, not a scrumptious after dinner meal! And, also, it is quite poor that there was a sticker over one of the main courses that is no longer being served along with a bit of white out. Surely it wouldn't cost them an arm & a leg to replace that page of the menu. We also noticed that there was no price being listed for the Soft Drinks!
We as a group were keen to try a new restaurant that none of us had been to before & we will not be recommending this restaurant to any of my friends! And will not be going back myself!
Good Paddock

This is an excellent restuaraunt for both service & food. The food is very innovative with sometimes a touch of asian added to what are Australian fare such as the use of aisian veges, sauces, etc.
Prices are reasonable and aimed at the upper end but you really get value for money.
It is fully lisenced but no BYO. Prices are agin at the top end but it has a good range with the addition of their own Yarra Valley selection at reasonable prices.
worth a look.
