i was forgiven for thinking that cafe silk had turned into a brazilian restaurant at dinner. the night i went it was brazilian but was told by the waiter that they change location in the culinary sense each 4 weeks.
had a great meal and really had a good time with friends, the food as usual was great as was the service. they have portugal coming up which i think i'll try

little gem

[i]had the pleasure of going to cafe silk on sunday for breakfast, the egg roll stuffed with braised rice and lentils well only one word for it fantastic, with houmus and a tomato cinnamon sauce, sort of reminded me of a dish in hong kong but had a real middle eastern bent to it. we ended up staying for lunch lets face my friends are a bunch of lazy bastards,i had the fish which was great the gold band snapper was so fresh that i would have thought that we had just caught it! im not to sure what they did to the eggplant accompniment but it was out of this world, mike and mel had the lamb special and chris stayed with breakfast(turkish eggs with yogurt and garlic butter) got talking to one of the girls working there about dinner apparently they change their location of the menu every few weeks, we've booked for the southern italian feast next week, she said it had been moroccan last week, let you all know how it went. the young girls name was cheyne, bent over backwards for us. what a nice way to spend an autumn afternoon

when will this place stop with the great food?

went to cafe silk on thursday night for dinner, wasnt too sure what to expect, what we got was a moroccan menu. it seems that every 3 weeks for dinner they change thier culinary location the waiting staff informed me that the last menu had been southern french and before that spanish. the food was out of this world and had an authenticity about it that really made the night. still going there for breakfast and lunch but they have added another layer to the place. im a bit mad for posting this review because i want to keep this place secret

This morning I had the pleasure of dining (it really felt like 'dining') at Cafe Silk. We went for a work breakfast, with a selection of reasonably priced, high quality food in a cosy, contemporary environment. Our group sat in the glass-ceilinged upstairs area.

It cost my partner and I $15 each for a breakfast - coffee and a selection from the menu. Several at the table ordered the Vegie breakfast, which was voted as 'just right'. A few others selected the egg and bacon Ciabatta roll with tomato relish. I chose the Home made Crumpets with rhubarb and lemon curd. It was the most decadent, delicious breakfast I've had in ages, It had never occurred to me that crumpets would be 'home made'!

The staff were friendly and the meals came quickly (great, because we had to all go off to work!). As we left, we passed through the full downstairs area, where other diners were enjoying their breakfast or coffees over a morning paper. We'll definitely be back for a lazy weekend breakfast!

As smooth as... well, you know

This place is tiny, but that's the only reason it might deserve the title of cafe rather than fully-fledged restaurant. Cafe Silk's food is impeccable, service excellent and the atmosphere as smooth as... well, you know.

Walking in off the street you enter a very small dining area, only room for four tables here, although a narrow staircase in the corner leads to another slightly larger room upstairs. Candles on the tables, black and white tiles on the floor, French prints hanging from the exposed brick walls - this place has a style that hearkens back to the Art Deco era, freshened by the stainless steel appointments and mood lighting.

Silk is well-supported by the locals, proved by the fact that almost everyone who entered knew the waiter by name. And no wonder it's popular with a menu filled with mouth-watering, French-inspired delicacies like lamb backstrap served on cous-cous or a fresh putanesca. We started with a trio of bruschetta that proved a tasty and entertaining beginning to a great night out.

Prices for main meals is $24 - $30, which in my opinion also boosts it out of the realm of 'Cafe' and into something classier, but still presents good value for what it is. The wine list had a good selection with many available by the glass, and it was nice to see a French and an Italian imported beer on the drinks list as well. The staff were friendly and competent, catering perfectly to our needs on the night.

Definitely a great one to try if you're in the area, but you'd better make sure to book ahead on a Friday or Saturday night.

“A convivial bustling café in a great location. Spectacular more than thought-through assemblies of ingredients, quality wines and excellent friendly service.”
