Reviews for 400 Degrees
hottest rocks in town!

After wandering past 400degrees on a number of occasions, I decided to spoil the other half for his birthday with a night out here.
The friendly waitress greeted us and led us to a table, where she instructed us on the format of the experience. The menu boasts a variety of steaks, as well as vegetarian, chicken and seafood options. Follow up with some of the scrumptious looking cakes or 'cold rock' ice cream.
The comprehensive (but not overbearing) wine list from a number of regions in Australia gave solid variety. The decor initially attracted caught my eye, with its red highlights providing a hint to the general 'hot' theme of the restaurant. Simply, but tastefully decorated.
We've been raving about this place ever since. As James points out above, don't expect a 'cheap' night out, rather a fun dining experience with great quality food to share with a group. Can't wait to go back!
Hint: Thursday night special is worth checking out - Delicious cut of porterhouse steak with chips for $20 - and you can be guaranteed the quality steak will be cooked EXACTLY to your liking, for a very competitive price!
We also asked about the following Sat night - the hint - book at least a week in advance. The stones (volcanic granite we were told) take 6 hours to heat, and once used for the evening can't be used again. Make sure you book so to avoid disappointment!
Served with Sizzle!

400 Degrees is a relatively new Stonegrill restaurant on Pakington Street in Geelong - but word has spread quickly, and Friday night it was packed with people sizzling their own steaks and seafood on their individual hot rocks.
If you're never been to a Stonegrill before you'd do well to try it. You're delivered a plate with a hot, flat stone which has been heated to - you guessed it - 400 degrees, and which stays hot enough to cook food on for at least an hour. Atop the rock is steak, chicken, seafood or a vegetarian option, initially sitting there quite raw. You slice pieces off and cook them to your liking, for a healthy and entertaining meal.
This venue is modern and stylish, although the crowded dining area lacks a clear sense of purpose. The wine list is adequate and affordably-priced. The staff, while friendly and professional, had trouble effectively servicing the large number of packed tables. Stonegrill meals start at around $26, although there were cheaper meals cooked normally in the kitchen. Don't spend too much time pondering why a meal you cook yourself is more expensive - it's something different and good entertainment.
A note of caution - don't wear your best white shirt as the sizzling process can spatter!
