We went to the Reingold to celebrate a friends birthday on Saturday night and it was more than a night out for tea, it was an experience and the owner treated you like you were a guest in his own house.
The night was arranged with a three course meal with a choice of 3 entrees, buffet main and apple strudel for desert. I had the cream of vegetable soup and I have to say it was the best cream of vegetable soup I have ever had.
The main buffet was presented by the traditional pig procession. Two strong guys are chosen from the guests to carry the pig in the procession. All the lights go out and the procession begins. Not that it should normally happen, but the decorated teddy on top of the pig caught on fire which was a little smelly. Then the pig was slipped on to the buffet table for carving.
Each table gradually makes their way up to have a choice of three meats, roast vegies, and many salads. I chose to have some pork and chicken. It was the best pork I have ever tasted. Once everyone has been served, you are invited to visit the buffet table as many times as you like.
Desert is served shortly after the main meal. Apple strudel with custard and cream. Very Yummy!!!
The night is continually entertained by a gentleman singing traditional german songs, then songs that others can feel free to join in with.
They will also sing you happy birthday if it is your birthday.
And always remember what number pig you were as the owner will surely recognise you next time and ask you what pig number you were there for last.
It costs $27 per person for the three course meal, drinks at bar prices.
