Why are the reviews from the golden plate awards on here? The give a 5 star over all rating but leave the others blank. I find this odd and misleading.

Hi Foodmafia, thanks for the question.

Venues that win a Golden Plate Award in at least one category are shown, together with the judge's comments to form a 'review'. When they are awarded though, the Golden Plates don't use a star rating system like we have here at Meet Me There, so I can't realistically know what the judges would put for all the different rated aspects of the venue - and I don't want to put words in their mouths by making up a star rating score for each individual category.

However, as the judges have seen fit to give them an award I assume that the venue deserves an overall rating of five stars.

Does that make sense? Sorry if it seems misleading! It seemed like it would be even more confusing to show the award but have no star rating given.

I feel that the golden plate awards really do not have a place in this forum. This site should be about what individuals think, not really what comes across as a promotional tool for the golden plate awards.

Sorry you feel that way Foodmafia, but the Golden Plate Awards are well respected locally and I think it's a good thing to have the opinions of the judges available here. They have exactly the same weight here as any other opinion. So if you personally choose to place more emphasis on individual reviewers, just ignore the Golden Plate ones and read the others instead.

I put the Golden Plate Award winners on here as a service to readers - I'd love to also be able to put reviews from the Good Food Guide and other awards and competitions as well, but often copyright prevents it.
